Misha, in the tradition of the West, is a self-taught sculptor of recognized and honored accomplishments. She has worked for over twenty years creating haunting visions of Native Americans, ancient and wise spirits, from an enduring people’s distant past. Her enchanting work personifies the dignity and pride exemplified by these ancient people. In all her works of art, the faces tell the stories of their legacy; “they speak with their eyes…whispering ancient songs of healing, gathering and hunting.”
"In my mind's eye I can see a face. As the clay comes to life in my hands I can see the person and
their story. My work is about a fleeting glimpse into someone's life, a memory of a life's journey.” Misha
Misha sculpts with her hands using polymer clay, working it until it is pliable enough to bring forth the personality, emotions, and spirit of the true-to-life human faces. Only her fingers carve the meticulous details: the wrinkles of the aged, the furrowed lines of a heavy heart, the warriors fierceness, the beauty of a young woman. Misha is guided by the face to create the sculpture's body using “…soft leathers, luxurious furs, elegant
feathers and exotic beads…to make a soft body with wire armature.” (full sized soft bodied sculptures only) She says: “The face speaks to me. Slowly it evolves into the person that it’s spirit wants to become.”
